Bill Gates has warned that artificial intelligence could permanently eliminate many entry- and mid-level jobs as it rapidly expands into fields including customer service, law, medicine, software and manufacturing. While acknowledging AI’s potential to improve healthcare, education and public services, Gates argues that governments are unprepared for the resulting economic, security and social disruption. He proposes stronger safety nets, taxes on AI and robots that replace workers, international coordination and a “Human Reserved” category for roles societies choose to keep in human hands.
